FIELD NOTES / ORGANISATION
Less rummaging. Better organisation.
Choose a pouch around its contents and attachment—not just the space it fills.
Give each pouch a purpose.
Separate the ordinary items you use together: stationery, charging leads or a small repair kit. Measure the largest item first. A useful pocket lets you see and reach what is inside without emptying everything onto a table.
Check how it attaches.
MOLLE-style equipment commonly uses a webbing grid and compatible attachment straps. Other organisers use belt loops, clips or hook-and-loop panels. Check the exact attachment on both items and follow the manufacturer’s fitting instructions; similar appearance alone does not prove compatibility.
Check it with the bag packed.
Make sure the new pocket does not obstruct handles, zips or your usual carrying arrangement. Try opening it with the bag in its normal position. Add the items you genuinely need, then reassess the overall size and weight.
Keep the system easy to maintain.
Use a simple label where helpful, and return items to the same place after use. Leave room to close the pouch comfortably. For work equipment, follow your organisation’s requirements; this guide concerns everyday organisation, not an operational equipment layout.
