Start with what you actually carry.
List your required equipment first, following your service’s policy. Add the ordinary essentials for your day: spare clothing, notebook, food and water. Note the dimensions of anything that needs a particular pocket or compartment.
Check the fit between items.
Compare attachment systems, dimensions and belt widths rather than assuming accessories will fit. If you are replacing part of an existing setup, check the exact model numbers.
Choose a layout you can maintain.
Keep frequently used items easy to find and avoid packing every compartment just because it is there. Check the overall weight and the bag’s carrying options. Follow your employer’s instructions for the storage and handling of duty equipment.
