FIELD NOTES / BUYING ADVICE
Choose a bag around your day.
The right bag starts with what you carry and how you carry it.
Start with the contents.
Lay out the equipment you carry on a normal shift. Separate items you reach for regularly from those you need less often. This gives you a more useful starting point than capacity alone.
Think about access.
Look at the arrangement of pockets and internal dividers. A bag that opens comfortably beside your usual workspace may suit you better than a larger bag with one deep compartment. Check the published dimensions against the space where it will sit.
Check the carrying options.
Consider whether you mainly carry the bag by hand, over a shoulder or on your back. Compare straps, handles and the empty weight. Product photographs help, but the specifications should settle the details.
Leave room for the everyday.
Think about the smaller things: notebook, spare clothing, food and water. Pick a layout you can keep organised rather than filling every available pocket. If you are comparing two models, ask us about their differences.
